Autumn Breakfast Smoothie

Although I do love summer and always wish it lasted for longer, the fruit harvest available in the Autumn months compensates for the cooling of the weather. Pears, damsons, Autumn raspberries and figs are perfect for pies, crumbles, jams, jellies and tarts. Then we also have the classic combination of blackberry and apple.

What I have chosen to do with these two most traditional of Autumnal fruits is to whip them up in an Autumn breakfast smoothie, made in my new best kitchen friend the Froothie. I decided to keep the smoothie relatively simple and also thought I would go vegan with this delicious breakfast in a glass. I have used almond milk along with oats, chia seeds and Manuka honey as well as a couple of crisp apples and a handful of fat, ever so juicy blackberries to produce a smoothie of the most strikingly beautiful dark purple.

My Froothie has been put through its paces this week and I have another recipe I hope to post which features a twist on a classic comfort dish and there is a super soup to follow. But for now, take my word for it, try out this  delightfully scrumptious smoothie to mark the arrival of Autumn.

I am entering my smoothie into the following challenges:

Ingredients

  • 2 Small apples cored, peeled and roughly chopped,
  • Large handful of blackberries
  • 1 tsp Manuka/regular honey/agave syrup
  • 1 tsp Chia seeds
  • 3 tbsp Oats
  • 1 Glass of almond milk

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients into your Froothie and whizz up for a minute until the drink is smooth. I start on a low setting then move swiftly up to the highest setting and leave it for a minute to ensure everything has been blitzed.

  2. Pour and serve!

Recipe Notes

Frozen blackberries would also work in this recipe. When measuring the milk, choose the glass you are going to serve the smoothie in to measure the correct quantity of milk.

Hi Laura – I’m chuffed you featured my black and blue smoothie, an autumn favourite! But you know I’ve been thinking – my smoothies haven’t been satisfying me lately and I’m looking for ways to bulk them up a bit. Oats and chia seeds are a brilliant idea. Look out for both in a Smarter Fitter Smoothie coming soon! 😉

I have also been whizzing up smoothies for breakfast with my Froothie so will add this to my repertoire! As well as the lovely oats and chia seeds I sometimes add a bit of nut butter and it really does work to sustain energy till lunchtime.

Now that is a great idea, I will add some to my next smoothie. I love all the nut butters available now, especially the almond butter.

Sounds just the perfect autumn on-the-go breakfast for a Froothie. Froothies get everything so silky smooth – it’s amazing!

It is a texture that cannot be replicated in regular blenders and that is what I love about the Froothie Kellie.

Glorious colour Laura and how wonderfully healthy. I’m a big fan of breakfast smoothies with whatever fruit glut is to hand but you’re reminding me I must add oats for longer lasting energy – thank you!

Thanks Andrea, it is my favourite colour smoothie thanks to those lovely blackberries. I agree, the best things is just adding whatever happens to need using up. I no longer waste half as much fruit as I did, it just get smoothied instead!

My apologies Laura for only just getting around to reading your gorgeous post, but thank you so much for entering your smoothie to the Family Foodies ‘The Under 2s’ event.  Unbelievably my kids have ONLY just got into smoothies and we now regularly have one for breakie packed full of seasonal or frozen fruit and oats. I’m loving your seasonal twist and dairy free version, such a great start to the day. And I’ve heard lots of good things about Froothies, so much so I have a bit of a case of Froothie Envy!
