The launch for Wake Up To Organic 2016 has begun and I am on board, in association with The Soil Association and The Organic Trade Board to bring you some achievable ways to make the switch to organic products at your breakfast table, starting with my cool green smoothie.
I will be speaking and also demonstrating my cool green smoothie along with two other tempting organic breakfast treats at NOPE (The Natural Organic Products Europe Exhibition), Europe’s largest trade fair for natural & organic products at ExCel London (17th/18th April).
Last year was my first year of getting involved with #WakeUpToOrganic. I teamed up with As Nature Intended and we welcomed locals, commuters and regular shoppers with free organic breakfasts all morning, talking to everyone we served about how easy it is to make small organic changes to your weekly shopping basket. You can read about it HERE.
#OrganicUnboxed is another super simple way you can make changes to your weekly shop. Several food bloggers have got involved with this challenge creating recipes such a these:
Roasted beetroot, garlic & Halloumi wraps – Feeding Boys
Stuffed cabbage rolls – Utterly Scrummy
Madeleine Shaw has created this video highlighting some of the changes you can make. The #OrganicUnboxed challenge delivers a box of mystery ingredients out of which a week’s worth of food can be rustled all from a selection of organic ingredients…
Think of making the changes for yourself? Well the easiest way to do this would be to give up your weekly take-away and invest the money back into buying good ingredients instead. Your money will go much further and the dishes you eat will actually be good for you and your family. With a home-made curry, you are in charge of exactly how much salt, cream and butter goes into it. You could throw in a few extra veggies and perhaps cut back on the meat to increase the nutritional value of your Saturday night treat.
If this sounds like a challenge you might like to take up, remember that a few small changes at a time work best. This way, you are far more likely to maintain these changes and your friends might be inspired to join in too.
You can follow the campaign on Facebook and Twitter as well as Instagram. I will be posting up other recipes and news over the coming weeks so stay tuned…

Oh great news Janie, look forward to reading about it!
This is such a great idea to get people cooking with more organic ingredients. I am sure you will be fabulous at the show – good luck!
Thanks Ceri, I hope so!
Thanks for sharing such a great message with us – it is so easy to go for cheap rather than quality. I will certainly be following the campaign.
Great to hear that Bintu :))
I love a green smoothie, I love that this one has plenty of fruit as well as a few veg. It sounds so refreshing!
Yes it is very refreshing with all that mint Becca 🙂
Loved the video and learning about the campaign. I will be following this and look forward to see what others do with their mystery box. It’s great to see organic produce being promoted. Your green smoothie sounds so refreshing too.
Hi Sarah, thanks for your comments and I am looking forward to seeing more of what is cooked up for the challenge too, I will be adding in links to the challenge as they come in 🙂
I love buying organic and I wish it were sold at less of a premium price. If it were more affordable, I am sure many more people could benefit. Love the sound of this refreshing smoothie – and the vivid colour!
I agree Jeanne although there is no easy way to swap cheaper ingrednients for mre expensive ones, with careful shopping a few changes can be made and sometimes the box schemes work out to be great value for money for organic fruits & veg
I love fruit smoothies and the ingredients in this one are just what I’d love to drink! Loving the glorious green colour too, my favourite:-)
Thanks Camills, green is such a good colour and this one has a lovely refreshing flavour 🙂
