The best thing about moving our usual holiday to France from the end to the middle of summer was that I got to attend the launch of the Henri le Worm cooking app at Raymond’s Covent Garden branch of Brasserie Blanc.
Henri le Worm is a brand new cooking app that is aimed at getting children (2-10) interested in cooking and where food comes from through it’s interactive games and recipes. I will be reviewing the app here soon.
The app has been created by Raymond’s son Olivier and Charlotte Salt. The recipes have been provided by Raymond who is involved in the cookery side of the app and Simon Pegg is the narrator. With this crew on board the app is off to a very good start.
The launch was a chance for both bloggers and journalists to have a go at making some of the recipes featured on the app along with our children. With Raymond teaching us, how could we fail? Well, we couldn’t. You see, I made sure me and the children watched his how to cook a chocolate mousse many times on You Tube to make sure we got it right.
Chocolate mousse and Mayonnaise Mice were on the menu and lots of talk about taking an interest in your ingredients and where they come from. Raymond really cares about food and educating children. Enthusiasm and energy, a love of what he does and a fantastic way with children made the whole experience a joy. How could it be otherwise being taught by the man behind Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons. And he is a self-taught chef. Although he had a talented mother in the kitchen where most of his culinary talents were nurtured. I do hope that my children will absorb a knowledge and appreciation of food through what I do as a cookery tutor.
Giving children the opportunity to experience, as we did at the Henri le Worm launch, being taught by a great chef is something of a privilege I do realise. But, by teaching our children about food and setting a good example we are surely giving them a good start in life. Hopefully Henri le Worm will consolidate their food knowledge through it’s visually engaging characters and I will be reporting back on some of the recipes I try from the app and thinking “Oh la la” as I do!
One final note, Raymond your croissants put the French to shame. They were faultless and I need to go back for more……
With thanks to Henri Le Worm for inviting me along to the launch of his app now available at iTunes.
Laura it was so lovely to see you – looking so bright and sunny in your yellow top! When I left the house at 8am it was dull and grey and so I wore boots and too may layers!! I was almost cooked myself in the Brasserie! That aside, it was a really enjoyable event and I am glad that you and your children enjoyed it, too. My 6 year old immediately came home and planted his mint and basil seeds, so we’ll see what becomes of that. And they love the app. Hope to see you again soon.
Oh you are good planting those seeds already. That’s on the list for this weekend for us. It was lovely to see you and your children and I hope we get to meet up again soon too xx
What a fun day! My whole family love to watch Raymond on the telly, so what an honour and treat to meet and cook alongside such a legend. Although your children will get their main inspiration from their lovely mum, this experience will undoubtedly reinforce their love of field to fork eating, but with a French accent. Thanks for sharing this day with us. Cute pictures!
This app sounds like a great idea and how fab to be taught by The Man himselff. I bet your children had a great time. GG
Thanks and yes they loved it as did I!
Hi Laura what a lovely event and it sounds like a great app. I shall have to check it out. Glad your kids enjoyed it too!
